The Lookout Cottages

Chelan, WA

The project was originally conceived as phase one of a new type of neighborhood to extend the housing experience at the Lookout. As the design progressed it became clear that there was an opportunity to provide a classic cottage housing diagram (small clustered houses around a common courtyard with remote parking) but in a current, contemporary language. The courtyard become the central neighborhood pool complete with spray park, sunning deck, large spa and changing building. The cottages developed into 15, two-story modern cottages that are just over 800sf. The exteriors were designed to maintain a rigorous exterior palette, spacing and coloration. This provides a wonderful background for the outdoor terraces, gardens and pedestrian circulation pathways that form the “streets” of this neighborhood. This project was co-designed with Wenzlau Architects.
